Lisa Faulkner appeared on BBC Radio to talk about her Christmas plans with husband John Torode, but one comment she made riled up listeners. The pair, who are famed for their cooking, are both passionate about making meals they love, and Christmas Day is no different. She told the hosts: “John and I love cooking, so to us, we just sit in bed, make our little list of what we are going to cook.”

She then explained that they distribute jobs, saying: “I’ll do cauliflower cheese, I’ll make Yorkshire puddings,” but she immediately referenced the reaction to making Yorkshire puddings for Christmas Day, adding: “And everyone’s like, ‘really? Yorkshire’s at Christmas?’ But we do.”

The host then responded: “It’s one of those things, one of those controversial things. Yorkshires, where do we feel about this? Yorkshire pudding at Christmas dinner?” He added: “It’s not something I’ve done before, but you know what? I’m going to do it this year. Why not?”

Lisa supported the decision and said: “Yeah, why not? Christmas dinner!” People immediately rushed to the comments to share their opinion on whether it belongs on the plate or not.

One user wrote: “YES! Defo Yorkshires!!! Wouldn’t be Christmas without them.” Another wrote: “Who on earth isn’t having Yorkshire’s at Christmas? I can’t cope!” A third wrote: “Yes! A key part of any roast!”

However, others were adamant it shouldn’t be on the plate, with one writing: “No. Only with beef.” While another said: “Definitely not with Turkey! Yorkshire puddings only with beef.”

A third fumed: “No, it’s just wrong!” A fourth added: “I say no! Yorkshire puds with beef only! Bread sauce instead!” The Yorkshire pudding on Christmas Dinner debate is something that has been in existence for years and leaves the country divided.

But one user noted in the comments that Christmas Day is supposed to be an occasion with “all the trimmings”, which includes everything that would appear on a Roast Dinner typically, but others feel strongly that if there’s no beef on the plate, there shouldn’t be Yorkies either.
